Alrighty, so to get the skills I need for my job here at Premium-Aerotec maintaining the storage environment I needed some kind of a workshop in certain techniques. In this case I was allowed to attend the NetApp ST200C ONTAP Basic Workshop in Nuernberg @ qSk1lls.
It was not my first time sitting in a workshop but it was the first time that I attend to some IT stuff which I really don´t know. Normally you work with a certain technique lets say with Hyper-V 2012, you read a book, you get first experiences with this and than to dive deeper in it by attending a workshop and a take an exam to certify yourself but this time I basically started with a course to get some experience eventually read a book and hopefully do this exam to pimp my cv.
So the course was kinda hard cause it was a lot of new stuff but I thing I got pretty much of it. I asked the trainer weahter this is the preparation for the exam and he just chuckled and said “this is 1 of 4 course to get the exam, pal” – Alright so much to that idea attending the course and got the certificat…:)
What I really like about this kinda appointments is when some IT guys come together and the fact that you get to know each other and you can size them up. So see what they know and how good they are(I´m still a competitive person, man). And that motivates you a lot to spend more time studying and I need this!
Another side effect is that you get to know the guys personal infact some are just like me. So it´s pretty easy to communicate.
I would not say that you´ll get best friends in life but to share 1 or 2 beers and some funny/horrible IT storys/youtube videos is great fun.
The next good thing of this workshop is you can see another city which was in my case the lovely Nuernberg.
I have to say I never really was a huge fan of old buildings, museum exhibits and all of this culture stuff but Nuernberg was so beautiful that I decided to spend some time and walk through the inner city. It was astounding how gorgeous it looks.
Eventually I was standing on top of this little castle where I actually tried to image how the enemies must have felt to stand in front of the walls and get killed by a shower of arrows or how they must have feared climbing up ladders to take a fortress.
And one more thing. I used to love basketball very much so I got a ball where ever I go and Nuernberg´s got soo many basketball courts and people playing there that it make pretty much fun to do the same and show some hanover stylo *g
So all in all it was a pretty cool time out from my boring office and I´m looking forward to the next workshop;)
